five/eighths architecture didn't officially launch until 2015, but plans were in the works many years before that. Grant and Bradley are cousins, and they both have wanted to be architects since as long as they can each remember. They spent many hours of their childhood playing with Legos in Grant's basement or with Quadro in Bradley's basement. The name of the firm is derived from the fact that Grant is 1/2 Dutch and Bradley is 3/4 Dutch; therefore anything they create together can be considered 5/8 Dutch. Their Dutch heritage comes from their mothers, who emigrated from the Netherlands when they were children. Contemporary Dutch architects such as Rem Koolhaas, MVRDV, and Neutelings Riedijk are some of the practitioners that have influenced Grant and Bradley the most (however, their favorite architect of all time is Louis Kahn).
